Hampstead School was opened in 1925, and for decades served as the community school for the quiet and affluent town of Hampstead. It has since evolved into a school with a much more encompassing student population. Hampstead School now serves a broad socio-economic level of students and is officially categorized as an inner-city English-speaking school. In addition, the school has evolved a philosophy of inclusion for students with special needs and promotes the special programs and staffing that are needed to ensure the success of all students.

Our History

It has since evolved into a school with a much more encompassing student population. Hampstead School now serves a broad socio-economic level of students and is officially categorized as an inner-city English-speaking school. In addition, the school has developed a philosophy of inclusion for students with special needs and promotes the special programs and staffing that are needed to ensure the success of such students.

In the 1994-1995 academic year, the school introduced the Success for All {SFA} Language Arts model, a state-of-the-art method for teaching language arts that was originally developed at Johns Hopkins University. This model benefits both advanced students and students with learning difficulties, in that all students proceed at their own pace.

Our Student Community

The students at Hampstead School are from many cultural, ethnic, religious, and socio-economic backgrounds. The school is not a typical community school, and because of its unique strengths, students from different parts of Montreal attend our school. Hampstead School students, therefore, come from a wide variety of ethnic backgrounds and from a broad geographic area that includes Cote-des-Neiges, NDG, Montreal West, Little Burgundy, Ville-Emard, Snowdon, Cote-St-Luc, Westmount, and Hampstead.

Hampstead School is committed to following an inclusion model to best meet the needs of all students, thereby integrating children with special needs into the regular student population. Hampstead School continues to welcome students from various other institutions. The school community is proud of the fact that advanced learners find an enriched and challenging curriculum suited to their abilities.

A Successful Home/School Partnership

Parents and teachers work cooperatively in order for the children to learn that consequences for their behavior are a result of choices in behavior.  Parents must be aware of their child’s actions in school so that they will be part of the shared education socialization process.

Parents are involved in the school’s Governing Board and the Parent Participation Organization(PPO). They also volunteer in the library & office, help organize activities and family events, as well as, various school fundraisers.

MESA Annual Report

In order for the school and the school board to comply with the Education Act article 209.2(1)(2)(3)(4), the school board and school must sign a Management and Educational Success Agreement. This must be done annually.

This Agreement outlines the commitments made by the school board and the school to achieve their mission of successfully instructing, qualifying and socializing students. The Management and Educational Success Agreement defines the school/centre role in supporting the school board objectives and targets for student success, within the school board strategic plan and in line with the Ministère de l’Éducation, des Loisirs et du Sport goals.
