Apr\u00e8s avoir \u00e9t\u00e9 form\u00e9e par Andrea Prupas, conseill\u00e8re en technologie d'assistance de la Commission scolaire English-Montr\u00e9al (CSEM), l'\u00e9quipe de Hampstead avait h\u00e2te de l'essayer.<\/p>\n<p>L'\u00e9l\u00e8ve Lashawndel \u00e9tait non-verbal au d\u00e9but de l'ann\u00e9e scolaire 2018-19. Lorsqu'il est pass\u00e9 d'un tableau de vocabulaire \u00e0 TouchChat, il a commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 avoir des approximations verbales. Par exemple, s'il voulait du jus de pomme, il touchait le visuel correspondant sur son iPad, entendait les mots \"jus de pomme\" et les r\u00e9p\u00e9tait. \"Il peut maintenant dire des chiffres, chanter avec nous, exprimer ses d\u00e9sirs et ses besoins\", a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 Razan Khobieh, orthophoniste \u00e0 l'EMSB. \"C'est absolument incroyable les progr\u00e8s qu'il a faits\". L'\u00e9quipe de l'EMSB a not\u00e9 que Lashawndel \u00e9tait plus patient et plus confiant en classe.<\/p>\n<p>Les parents de Lashawndel l'ont vu pour la premi\u00e8re fois communiquer avec l'iPad lors d'un entretien avec les enseignants et ont \u00e9t\u00e9 enthousiasm\u00e9s. \"Beaucoup de parents ont peur d'utiliser un iPad ou des supports visuels parce qu'ils craignent que leur enfant ne parle pas. Mais c'est multimodal. Ils voient l'image du mot, ils l'entendent et ensuite ils le disent\", a expliqu\u00e9 M. Khobieh.<\/p>\n<p>Linton Myers, p\u00e8re de Lashawndel, a regard\u00e9 son fils continuer \u00e0 utiliser l'iPad pendant l'\u00e9t\u00e9. Dot\u00e9 d'une forte m\u00e9moire et d'un amour des chiffres, cet \u00e9l\u00e8ve a adopt\u00e9 la technologie tr\u00e8s t\u00f4t, puisqu'il utilisait d\u00e9j\u00e0 un t\u00e9l\u00e9phone \u00e0 l'\u00e2ge de deux ans. \"Je suis tr\u00e8s satisfait de la fa\u00e7on dont Lashawndal a adopt\u00e9 la technologie d'assistance en classe et \u00e0 la maison. Il les comprend bien. L'iPad l'aide \u00e0 faire des phrases. L'\u00e9quipe a personnalis\u00e9 TouchChat sur son iPad avec une approche bas\u00e9e sur les points forts en ajoutant la pr\u00e9diction des mots comme option lors de l'utilisation de la communication textuelle. Son professeur de classe de l'\u00e9poque, Margot Faessler, a expliqu\u00e9 qu'ils ont pu entrer dans son univers pour travailler avec lui plus rapidement. \"Il \u00e9tait moins frustr\u00e9 et pr\u00e9sentait moins de probl\u00e8mes de comportement et de stimulation.\"<\/p>\n<p>L'autre \u00e9l\u00e8ve de Mme Faessler, Juliet, a des capacit\u00e9s linguistiques, mais en raison d'un trouble de la parole, souvent observ\u00e9 chez les personnes atteintes du syndrome de Down, son discours est inintelligible. \"Notre objectif avec Juliet \u00e9tait de la faire communiquer de mani\u00e8re claire par le biais de l'iPad.
